Simi is the eighth largest island in the Dodecanese, between Rhodes and Turkey with a total area of 58.1 square km .. It is, 255 miles from Piraeus, about 23 miles from the island and 3.7 miles from the nearest coast of Turkey. The natural harbor Gialos has a horse shape the city built in the surrounding hills as an amphitheater. It is, in the 2001 census, 2,606 inhabitants, 2,427 of whom are concentrated in the upper part of the city, the Village.
