Spétses (Katharevousa Spetsai) is close to the historic island Argolikos peninsula, right Argolic entrance bay, a distance of 1.5 miles from Ermionidas and 50 miles from Piraeus. Spetses up three more islands: the Spetsopoula, Saint John and the Little Bubbles. Spétses oval in shape, around 11 miles of coastline, an area 22.5 square kilometers. with a maximum length of 4 miles and a maximum width of 2.5 miles. Crossed by mountain range with highest peak Prophet Elias (291m.). The capes of the island are: Sourmpouti (VA.), the Kavos - Fanari (A.), the Mafrokavos (NA.), the Zastano (Law) and Bourmpouthi (VD.). The territory of Spetses is mainly pine, but is largely agricultural. Main products are olives, olive oil, cereals, grapes, almonds, figs and some livestock products. The climate is cool and healthy and is offered as a place paratherismou. The inhabitants are engaged mainly in shipping and fishing.
Capital is the eponymous town of the island city that is by which settlements: Agia Paraskevi, Anargyri Saints, Holy Apostles, Adosidon, Vrelon, States Zogeria, Ligoneri, overmuch, Tzila, female monastery Saints and islet Spetsopoula property Niarchos Family.
     

 spetses3 In ancient times called "Pityonisos and Pityousa. The current name comes from the medieval mariners Catalans, Genoese and Venetians. The Franks called the "Player Izola FPA" or "FPA Izola Player" (= aromatoforos island). In another version the name came from "Petsa (Petsiotes) alleged Albanian language as the ancient name anagrammatismos Pityousa. In an era of Frankish Spétses come to the Venetians (1220-1460) and those of the Turks. In the 17th century the population was mainly Albanians were probably installed by the 15th century and then increased with settlers from Laconia-Tsakonas (Tyros-Leonidio) Argolida and Ermionidas epoikiseis followed later in the 18th century. The original medieval village was northwest of the city, the current position "Kastelli" where there was a citadel on the hill (the church's current position of St. Basil). The people of Spetses Rosotourkiko took part in the war (1770) and suffered major destruction from the Turks. But after 5 years (1774-1775) amnistefthikan by the Turks.
