| Sifnos when Pliny originally called "Meropi" and "Akis", in the case of Stephen the Byzantium "Meropi. The current name was taken in by other Sifnos, son of the legendary Attic hero Sounion, in others by the adjective "Sifnos" (= blank), perhaps from the ancient mining tunnels) and the other of "Siphnians" (= aspalax). Southeast today Apollonia, on the hill of St. Andrew are double walls proellinikis Acropolis, showing the existence of the city at that time but an unknown name. The outer wall resembles with that of Troy and the Mycenaean era. In the same section found many pottery and tombs of the same historical period. The beach of Platis Yialos is kosmikoteri beach of the island. Located on the south side of the island at a distance of 12 kilometers from Apollonia. It is the most beautiful beach of Sifnos and one of the greatest beaches in the Cyclades, and so it brings the most people. Feature is that it is safe to embrace a vagina and do not ever get Meltemi. Around the beach extends the homonym settlement. We operate several hotels and rented rooms complexes. After the bath you can have lunch in the coastal taverns serving fresh fish, roast and traditional dishes. On the west side of the island lies the small village of Vathi. The closed namesake bay protects the picturesque village which is a typical example of Cycladic architecture. |
