The prefecture of Rethymnon has many valuable parts, historical, archaeological and religious importance. From a fork right at a distance of 5 km east of Rethymno, on the old road, find the Monastery of Arkadi, the monument ethnikoapeleftherotikon matches of the people of Crete against the Ottoman domination.  The Amari province has many beautiful villages, but many Byzantine churches. 3 km east of Rethymno, is the exit to the Amari valley.
