| Settlement took its name from the inhabitants of Lower Kastri "in years of piracy, forced to flee for safety to create the new village at the foot of the mountain, called the" Upper Kastri.

The castle is a village in the southern shoreline of Kavontorou close. The village is built on the hills surrounding a small, almost enclosed bay that has all the advantages of a well protected natural harbor, with an opening in the eastern Aegean.
The circular beach extends for 350 meters and has lots of sand, pebbles and small rocks.
The bottom is sandy with some small rock formations and the water is calm and serene.
There is sufficient historical and archaeological interest in the region. In antiquity the natural harbor (Geraistos) was very important because the position of the control of navigation of the straits and was used as the main station in campaigns of the powerful fleets of the various historical eras.
