The prefecture of Trikala is one of the 51 prefectures of Greece and is geographically and administratively to the region of Thessaly. Capital is the Trikala prefecture with a population of 48,686 inhabitants. The prefecture is inhabited from ancient times. Paleolithic specimens have been identified living in the cave Theopetras where tools were Middle Stone Age (33000 - 8000 BC). The cave was inhabited by the end of the Neolithic to early Copper Age (2800 BC) when it was abandoned. We found pieces of pottery of the Early Neolithic Age (6000 - 5000 BC) with empiestes nails and writing of the Middle Neolithic (5000 - 4000 BC). Neolithic interest positions have also found near the village of Big Kefalovriso, 9 km northwest of Oakland, while the clay models found Zarkos home with statuettes, offering a home base (Modern Neolithic Age, the 5th millennium BC).

The capital of the deities associated with medicine, as nymph Triki. Protector of health and medicine, was born on the banks of Lithaiou and gave the name of the city. King of Triki Asklipios doctor was considered a child of the city. Therapeutic herbs collected in the term Kerketio (Koziakas). The Asklipio Triki was one of the oldest. The Trikki took part in the Trojan War with Oichalia and Ithomi (now Fanari Karditsa) with thirty or more ships, led the children of Asclepius, and Machaon Podaleirios, who was also famous doctors. |
