The island of Kythnos is Western Cyclades between Kea and Serifos, and is 56 nautical miles from Piraeus port and only 2 hours from the port of Lavrion.
Called hot (thermal), at least from the 12th century when it referred to "Diocese of Kea and hot." The name is due to the hot springs that exist today in the Bay Baths. The springs of Kythnos is said to have enjoyed the King Otto and Queen Amalia.
It has an area of 99.3 square kilometers. and along the coast about 104 kilometers. It has 92 bays, coves and beaches, most of which are accessed by road. The mountains of the island is not large, the highest peak is the "Prophet Iliass" on Mount Stone 336m altitude and at approximately the same height and the tops of St. Mina and St. Theodore. Previously in Kythnos evdokimouse much barley as pre-war export to reach half a million okades. The main supplier was the Fix brewery. Other main products are honey figs, wine, tamygdala. The climate is considered very healthy and stay more enjoyable despite strong northerly winds. Generally the trees to Kythnos scarce.

On the island there are two inland villages, the Country Messaria with 806 residents and Dryopida with 797 residents (census 2001). There are three main coastal villages: the principal port Merihas with 250 people, with the hot springs spas and Virgin channel with the homonymous church. Apart from these there are several smaller settlements such as St. Demetrios, Episkopi, Agios Stefanos, Flabouras, Kalo Livadi, St. Irene and repulsion. It has daily traffic to Piraeus, the port of Lavrion and the capital of the Cyclades Ermoupolis (Syros) and other islands of the western Cyclades, with conventional and high speed ships.
