Zagorochoria

In the picturesque village Asprageli, 30 km. from Ioannina, which is the first in row of the villages of Zagori and a starting point as well, due to its geographical position, you will find Hotel "Melition" for your stay. Once you enter the hotel, you will experience the friendly and noble sensation of all of its corners. It is built based on old stone-built mansions of Zagori, according to the architectural tradition of Zagori.

The decoration is an excellent sample of the tradition of Zagori. The coloured ceiling, the wooden floor and the traditional furniture will transfer you to another time.You can visit our hotel all year round. "Melition" has 8 rooms with central heating, TV and bath, whereas 4 of them have a fireplace as well.Your day will start with a plentiful breakfast (optional), served in the hotel breakfast room in buffet.In the lounge, next to the fireplace, you can enjoy traditional wine or tsipouro, cold dishes and pies of Zagori, traditionally cooked.

MACHALAS, unique in Central Zagori, is a new complex built with stone and wood respecting absolutely the architecture and tradition of Zagori, in a garden of 2,000m2. It consists of 10 independent apartments of 40m2 (single-spaced) and one of 60m2 (double-spaced) that can accommodate 2 to 6 persons. The unit with the big outdoors space is offered for receptions, weddings etc, and it also has a central lounge for resting and drinks. Facilities for persons with special needs. It is open all year long. Each house has its own character and decoration. The rooms have their own courtyard, fireplace, kitchen, individual heating, television, ISDN line and some are provided with water massage and room service.

Porfyron means purple and hotel Porfyron stands like a red beacon between the grey, natural stone built houses of the picturesque village of Ano Pedina. This is one of the 46 still occupied Zagoria villages in the Epiros, situated in the north western region of Greece, 35 kilometres north of Ioannina.

This pleasant hotel was built in 1850 as a doctor’s residence and was later used as a girls’ school. It has eight spacious, tastefully furnished rooms. Each room has been named after a famous mountain top in Greece.

During the restoration of the building, the original character has been preserved as much as possible. Fretwork ceilings dating back 150 years still adorn the entrance and can also be found upstairs. All rooms have a shower and toilet (2 rooms have a Jacuzzi bath) and most of the rooms also have a fireplace.

The owners, Jiannis en Rita Kirligitsis, attach much value to the Greek tradition and give their guests a warm welcome, making sure they feel at home. In the hotel’s restaurant, the owners prepare fresh regional dishes daily (also catering for the vegetarians) with ingredients from their own garden or the surrounding countryside.

Most of the bread is homemade and Rita’s favourite pursuit is making jams, marmalades and liqueurs. You will find them in several special flavours such as elderberry and chanterelle. Jiannis also makes his own red wine and sipero (raki). You can taste the delicious homemade jams with the extensive breakfast.

The village of Ano Pedina is lovely and quiet and is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside. Zagoria is a fantastic area for both short and long distance walks with flora and fauna of a rare and unknown beauty.

Our beautiful hostel is situated in the unique village of Papigo. The hostel, forming a perfect touristic proposal, can transform a simple excursion to Papigo into an unforgettable experience. You will find us on the eastern side of the village, on the way that leads to the village of Mikro Papigo. Crossing the big, traditional garden door which lets you into the stone-wall enclosed, paved yard, you will discover a unique group of six independent houses, typical of the extraordinary local architecture.

We have three double-room houses, a single-room small house with a nice view and two double rooms. All our small houses have their own heating equipment, a fireplace and T.V. Most of them have a Jacuzzi and one of them has a sauna. The decoration of the houses is unique and the soft colours calm and rest the visitor. Our rich breakfast consists of local products and it is served in our beautiful breakfast room which is also a sitting room for our clients.

Konstantinou and Elenis hostel is a traditional new building with a beautiful view in the centre of Monodendri village. There are things very important to us, the owners of the hostel, such as respect in tradition, love and unity in the family, and the protection of the environment. At the same time we are lovers of quality in general. We want our visitors to feel at home in our hostel's beautiful and friendly environment and live moments of relaxation that this mountainous place can provide through the contact with nature. Our hostel, so far away from a demanding and stressful way of life, is a place suitable for rest.The warmth of our hostel is well conveyed by its main element, wood, by local architecture and by the paintings on our hostel's walls, works of local artists. This way everyone can get to know the folk tradition of this special village, a spot within the land of Epirus and feel at home in our cosy hostel. The hostel has eight rooms in total. Three of them have two beds. One of them has a stone made jaccuzi. There is also one suite with two rooms and four beds and two more suites in the attic. There is also a room with a second stone made jaccuzi, which is available for all our hostel's customers. The rooms are cleaned and the sheets of the beds are changed every day, unless the visitor prefers otherwise.
