| Chios is an island in the Aegean Sea. It is hardly the coast of Asia Minor. Just 3.5 miles separates from the Cape Peninsula as the Punta Eritrea at the rate of Tsesme. It is the fifth largest in size island in Greece (904 tetr.chiliometra) with 213 km coastline and a population living both in town and harbor of Chios and in 64 villages of the island. Furthermore, Chios has great emigrant community in London and New York. The main products exported are gum, oil, figs and wine and has an international reputation for the size and quality of shipping. Administration together with the islands of Psara and Inousses is the prefecture of Chios, with a population that reaches 53,817 inhabitants (census 2005). The capital of the prefecture is the city of Chios, known and Country. |
