In the mythology was built by the King Wild, who was
a descendant of genarchi Aetolos and his son Plefrona. The city, built almost
beside the River Acheloos was the natural boundary between Aetolia and Acarnania
found several times under the sovereignty of both sides and in 314 BC destroyed
by Kassandros. Excavations of Miliadi in 1920 showed that the ancient city
located in the nearby Zapanti in recent years but have found many ancient even
in the center of the city.
After a few centuries in obscurity, the city

many Turks and early 18th century became the seat of Santzakiou Karleli,
